MY NAME is Dr. Pier Boutin. I am a board certified orthopaedic surgeon here at The UltraWellness Center. During a trek in the remote mountains of Haut Atlas in central Morocco, I watched a small boy fall. His little sister rushed over and lovingly “played doctor” bandaging his knee. As an orthopaedic surgeon, I approached to see if I could help. I noticed this little boy’s feet were deformed. I saw he had bilateral club feet. In the United States, his condition would have been addressed with serial casting before he was old enough to walk. This little boy, however, is already four years old and now needs surgery as soon as possible.
His name is Mohamed. He lives in Armed, a poor village without any access to medical care. His Berber people mostly trade in walnuts and travel by donkey. Without our help, Mohamed will never live independently, attend school, work, or marry. With surgery Mohamed has a chance of a normal life. Without surgery, his future is very grim.
Please help to make a very big difference in a little boy’s life by donating to the Little Mo Surgery Fund bv donating via Paypal below.
Who is Mohamed?
Mohamed lives in one of many little villages scattered through the rugged mountains of the Haut Atlas region in the province of El Houiz. He lives in Armed, the largest village, with a population of 1600 Berber people. This beautiful little boy lives with his parents and his sister Somaya, 6 years old. His extended family of 52 live in homes made of mud, stones and straw with floors made of mud and donkey droppings. Each home has two or three rooms and is built on the slope of the mountains.
Mohamed was born with club feet, a very treatable condition. Even though his deformities are severe, his feet are well formed. With surgery, Mohamed can have a completely normal life. He will be able to walk, run, play, go to school, and eventually work and marry. Without surgery Mohamed’s life will be one of tragedy.
I plan to bring Mohamed to the US to have the surgery he needs. He and his father Rachid will stay in my home until he has had the surgery, his wounds are completed healed, he has gone through physical therapy, and he can walk, run, and play like any normal little boy.
With your help, we can give Mohamed the life he deserves. Let’s join together to change Mohamed’s life and his family’s life for the better.
