What is Functional Medicine?

Functional Medicine addresses the underlying causes of disease, using a systems-oriented approach and engaging both patient and practitioner in a therapeutic partnership. It is an evolution in the practice of medicine that better addresses the healthcare needs of the 21st century.

By shifting the traditional disease-centered focus of medical practice to a more patient-centered approach, functional medicine addresses the whole person, not just an isolated set of symptoms. Functional Medicine practitioners spend time with their patients, listening to their histories and looking at the interactions among genetic, environmental, and lifestyle factors that can influence long-term health and complex, chronic disease. In this way, Functional Medicine supports the unique expression of health and vitality for each individual.

Hallmarks of Functional Medicine Approach

Patient-
centered care
The focus of Functional Medicine is on patient-centered care, promoting health as a positive vitality, beyond just the absence of disease. By listening to the patient and learning his or her story, the practitioner brings the patient into the discovery process and tailors treatments that address the individual’s unique needs.
science-based
healthcare approach
Functional Medicine practitioners look “upstream” to consider the complex web of interactions in the patient’s history, physiology, and lifestyle that can lead to illness. The unique genetic makeup of each patient is considered, along with both internal (mind, body, and spirit) and external (physical and social environment) factors that affect total functioning.
Integrating best
medical practices
Functional Medicine integrates traditional Western medical practices with what is sometimes considered “alternative” or “integrative” medicine, creating a focus on prevention through nutrition, diet, and exercise; use of the latest laboratory testing and other diagnostic techniques; and prescribed combinations of drugs and/or botanical medicines, supplements, therapeutic diets, detoxification programs, or stress-management techniques.

THE PROBLEM

Why we need Functional Medicine?

Our society is experiencing a sharp increase in the number of people who suffer from complex, chronic diseases such as diabetes, heart disease, cancer, mental illness, and autoimmune disorders like rheumatoid arthritis.
The system of medicine practiced by most physicians is oriented toward acute care -- the diagnosis and treatment of trauma or illness that is of short duration and in need of urgent care, such as appendicitis or a broken leg. Physicians apply specific, prescribed treatments such as drugs or surgery that aim to treat the immediate problem or symptom.
Unfortunately, the acute-care approach to medicine lacks the proper methodology and tools for preventing and treating complex, chronic disease. In most cases it does not take into account the unique genetic makeup of each individual or factors such as environmental exposures to toxins and the aspects of today’s lifestyle that have a direct influence on the rise in chronic disease in modern Western society.
There’s a huge gap between research and the way doctors practice. The gap between emerging research in basic sciences and integration into medical practice is enormous—as long as 50 years—particularly in the area of complex, chronic illness. Why settle for outdated practices?
At The UltraWellness Center, we implement the latest research and science into our treatment plans.

7 Keys to ultrawellness

The foundation of The UltraWellness Center

1Environmental Inputs
Everything in our environment interacts with our genes to create health or disease. This is the revolutionary concept of epigenetics. Our diets, nutritional status, air, water, how much we exercise, trauma, psychosocial factors, and exposure to environmental toxins and radiation can all influence our genes and our health. Creating a healthy environment inside and out is our first step to balancing the system.
2Inflammation and Immune Balance
When your immune system shifts out of balance, inflammation can run rampant — causing a chronic, smoldering fire inside your body that contributes to disease and weight gain. Managing inflammation is a key aspect to achieving UltraWellness.
3Hormones and Neurotransmitters
Most Americans are living out of harmony with our biological rhythms. The reason is this: two kinds of small molecules, which we depend on to keep us in balance, are running haywire. They are hormones and neurotransmitters, and uncovering reasons for imbalances in these areas is essential.
4Gut and Digestive Health
Optimal gut health has become a prominent focus in 21st century health. The links between chronic illness and an imbalanced microbiome keep growing. Our gut is at the core of our health. Understanding why it breaks down and how to repair it becomes of the utmost importance.
5Detoxification
Detoxification is the science of how our bodies get rid of waste. If waste builds up, we get sick. The key becomes figuring out how to enhance our body’s capacity to detoxify and get rid of waste while minimizing our exposure to toxins.
6Energy, Mitochondria & Oxidative Stress
Energy – how we make it, why we lose it, and how to create more of it. Understanding how to optimize our mitochondria (energy factories) and how to reduce oxidative stress (which results from toxic insults, infections, allergens, stress, and just eating too much poor quality food) is an often overlooked yet vital component to becoming a thriving human.
7The Mind/Body and Body/Mind Effect
The body and the mind are a single, dynamic bi-directional system. What you do to one has enormous impact on the other. What you do to your body you do to your brain. Understanding the importance of this relationship is the final key to UltraWellness.

Patient of Dr. Hyman
Let me begin by sharing that a hopeful expectation washed over me from my initial phone interaction with Ann while setting up my first appointment at The UltraWellness Center. Through four years of frustrating doctor appointments, a myriad of testing with various specialists and multiple E.R. visits I never felt anyone really cared what happened to me. My health was declining by the minute. Headaches, digestive pain, 30-pound weight loss, tremors, brain fog, fatigue, apathy, neuropathies, fainting that was misdiagnosed as seizures all left the doctors questioning my sanity and left me without hope. My son’s wedding was six months away, and I was afraid I would not make it. I prayed and asked God to show me the next step. I desperately wanted to be there – both physically and emotionally. That reality compelled me to go outside the traditional realms of medical care to the world of Functional Medicine. My search led me to The UltraWellness Center. I have never looked back. I know God led me there. My first appointment of the day was with Dr. Elizabeth Boham. She took my health history with professionalism and compassion. Armed with my information, Dr. Boham then decided what labs would be necessary to uncover the root cause of my mysterious illness and how best to direct the team to get me up and functioning again. Dr. Boham is a true clinician! She next sent me to Lisa Dreher for nutritional counseling. I found Lisa to be sensitive, insightful and very knowledgeable in all areas of functional nutrition. Her knowledge is heads and heels above any nutritionist I ever met with. Lisa was able to put together a meal plan that worked around multiple food allergies, sensitivities and histamine intolerance. She is well versed in many outside resources available to help me towards nutritional stability. My next stop was Jiori, the nurse. Jiori explained the various lab tests that Dr. Boham ordered and their order of importance. My conversation with her affirmed that this was truly a medical practice that will look to uncover the mystery of my escalating illness because they look at health care a different way! When I went home I had a piece that had eluded me for four years! I was in the hands of dedicated healers. While we waited for the results of all the nontraditional labs to come back, I was able to implement all the suggestions and advice I received on appointment day. My nutrition picked up in a few weeks, all my lab work was back. Now armed with new information, we were able to proceed and get a firm grip on the root cause of my illness. I can finally stop chasing diagnoses and can start fighting Lyme and the many co-infections that have ravaged my immune system for four years. I am so thankful to my health care team at The UltraWellness Center for standing by me and getting me to Kentucky for my son’s wedding. For four years, I languished in the conventional health care chaos, but in five months, the UWC team had me up and dancing at my son’s wedding and our 28th anniversary. I am forever in debt to each of you for your hard work in getting me to this day!

This note is for Dr. Hyman and for the staff, all of whom have changed my life dramatically, given me back my health, my body, my natural level of contentment, and my ability to engage vibrantly with everything and everyone in my life. I came to the Ultrawellness Clinic in August of 2011 in desperation. I had been deteriorating ever since surgery for thyroid cancer in 2000. I was sophisticated in the world of doctors (my ex belonged to the tribe) and ran from one to the other; every one of them told me I was fine. But I felt like I was eighty years old, dragged myself to work and to fulfill obligations and had energy for little else. This was complicated by an undiagnosed piriformis syndrome so that, with further general deterioration, I also could hardly walk half a block. I saw Dr. Hyman’s name mentioned in a NYT Magazine article as the doctor of a woman who had a benign tumor all over her body which could turn malignant on a dime. She wrote books and devoted her life to her health. Ah, I thought, she has done all the research for me. I read up about Dr. Hyman and his approach, and made an appointment. Because I had not felt well for so long, I kept all of my blood work religiously. I had perhaps 15 years worth arranged chronologically which I would bring to my first appointment with a new doctor. At best, they looked at the more recent bloodwork. When I showed Dr. Hyman my two inch thick loose leaf, he said, “Excellent,” with an expression of true delight, read through every page right there in front of me and made notes on the pages as well. At one point he asked me, who is so and so? Why did he have you take such and such a test and not tell you, you had this and this. Then based on the tests I had been asked to take in preparation for my appointment (perhaps with the help of the information I also had provided), Dr. Hyman told me I had a leaky gut, very high levels of lead and mercury, a gluten intolerance, homocysteinemia, a cryptosporidium and a variety of vitamin and mineral deficiencies. In the notes he prepared for me listing 13 or so issues, he indicated the treatment, dosage and brand of supplement I should take where indicated, and the date of the next time I should test for this issue. When it was close to the testing date, I was contacted by the office and test materials were sent out to me. When I saw Dr. Hyman for my next appointment, he had all the data in front of him to see my progress and to think through adjustments to my treatment as called for. Within weeks of following Dr. Hyman’s instructions, I found myself living in a new body, or better, I found myself back in my original vibrant body! A habitual mood of contentment returned replacing a sense of void and emptiness that would come and go. Fatigue left. After ten long years of deterioration, I suddenly had energy, not just to drag myself to work, but to live, to enjoy, to engage in new projects, spend time with family and friends. It was a miracle. I had forgotten one could feel like this! I don’t know if I ever knew one could feel like this. And as I searched my shelves at mealtime for anything and everything nutritionally dense that I might add to my meal or salad, seventeen pounds slipped away never to return. But the magic was bigger than just Dr. Hyman, his unassuming manner, smile, attention and approach to medicine. There was a team standing behind and with Dr. Hyman. I worked most closely with Maggie, with Susan and Jamie but have been in touch with many on the staff. Working with you guys, is different from working with any other fancy New York doctor (I live in New York). I could email in a question for my nurse (Susan) or for my nutritionist (Maggie). I wrote detailed food diaries for Maggie which we reviewed together to optimize the ways I eat, all in the context of my medical issues and care. As issues came up, big and little, I emailed Jamie. When I drove up to Lenox for my appointments, I was welcomed, not as a patient or client or consumer of some sort, but from the heart. Where on this planet can one find care like this? Recently I had a call. The team must have been reviewing patient medications against recent tests and called to ask me to take another thyroid test to verify the correct dosage of the medication I am taking. Never have I received a call like this, unconnected to a particular visit; just part of a smart and conscientious review and follow up of data. I have brought all I learned from Dr. Hyman and the team to my family. I have five kids and eighteen grandchildren. When I visit them in Houston, in Chicago and in Baltimore, each grandchild tells me his or her favorite fruit or vegetable. Then we shop for these treasures. After that we prepare for our fruit and vegetable party, which can include reading up about the benefits of this favorite item and drawing pictures and hanging them on the walls. When I come, the kids all look forward to these parties! My journey with Dr. Hyman and all of you has brought so much to all the members of my family! At a recent appointment with Dr. Hyman he made the point that before sixty, one can get away with eating right but that after sixty, exercise is critical. I took him at his word. In New York I take a weekly hour long gaga class (a form of movement developed by the choreographer Ohad Naharin). I write now from Israel where I have come to do take gaga classes for one month. I take 14 classes and walk an addition 12 hours to get to class every week. I am 66 and brimming with energy. None of my friends are engaging physically to this extent. I would not trade this vitality with any billionaire who lacked it!

I made the call to the office to gather more information and booked an appointment with Dr. Todd LePine. I was scared at first as it involved a time commitment and was very expensive. I had been to several doctors and nothing was working. I knew something in my body was off. I made the trip from Toronto to The UltraWellness Center with my parents. I met with Dr. LePine who was very thorough and gave me his testing and supplement recommendations. I also met with Holly Niles, the Nutritionist on staff and she was tremendously supportive, especially with explaining why we feel the way we do and helped me get on track and stay on track with my diet. Also on that day I met with Heidi Spear, a Relaxation Specialist, and she helped me bring things to the surface and deal with them through journaling, visualization and reiki. I was in awe at the results of the variety of tests that I did and what was going on with my body. Dr. LePine explained she needed detox support and her microbiome was off. I’m not 100% yet, but I am eating the cleanest I have ever ate and feels the effects of that with good energy levels, and has a whole new outlook on life and looks forward to every day, and this was not always the case. The entire staff at the center has been so supportive through this healing process. The level of communication is excellent. When I have questions I would email and have a response within a day or two. I wanted to share my story to help others who are struggling. It’s so important to look at the root cause and the whole person, not just the parts. That’s what successful, healing medicine is all about.

My son Douglas is 34 years old, severely autistic and non-verbal. When we first saw Dr. LePine, my son was overweight, had acne, oversensitive hearing, and several self injurious behaviors such as head banging and finger biting. Since my son could not tell us how he felt, he would frequently “act out” when he was upset or not feeling well and couldn’t vocalize his needs. Dr. LePine found sensitivities to gluten, dairy, soy and 12 additional common foods that my son consumed frequently such as bananas, mushrooms, tomatoes, and black pepper. Food sensitivities can lead to a leaky gut, inflammation and eventually autoimmune problems. Dr. LePine also checked for heavy metals, parasites, vitamin levels, and a host of other tests that focused on finding the root cause of his problems and not just eliminating symptoms. With information culled from the test results, Dr. LePine recommended a vitamin and supplement protocol targeted to his particular issues. When we left after our first visit, we were given a loose leaf notebook to take home, outlining the information discussed at the visit. After going Gluten/Dairy/Soy free and following the vitamin/supplement protocol for about 3 months, we began to see a difference in our son and now after 3 years of being treated by Dr. LePine, he is a totally different person. His self injurious behaviors have almost disappeared. He enjoys lots of things that used to make him nervous, he has lost 50 pounds, his acne has totally cleared up and he is a much happier person too. Our whole family is now enjoying a less stressful and a more joyous life. I have been taking my son to see specialists since he was a small child and never felt so confident in a doctor as I do in Dr. LePine. He is the best doctor we have ever worked with. In addition, the UltraWellness Center has the most nurturing atmosphere of any medical group we have ever visited. Every person I have encountered there has been caring, competent, and concerned about making our experience as good as it can be. Each email I get from the UltraWellness Center states on the first line: We specialize in YOU! That’s the truth. I would recommend the UltraWellness Center wholeheartedly to anyone needing help with chronic problems and health issues that are not being properly addressed by their regular physician and would be better served using a Functional Medicine approach.

My name is Craig and I was diagnosed with Diabetes in 1999 or 2000 by my then family doctor. I had no symptoms, but during one of my chiropractic visits my Chiropractor took my blood pressure and it was 200/forgot the bottom number; he wanted me to go to the ER, I said I would see my family MD in the morning and I did; at this time I was put on an oral diabetic medication and advised to go to “the diabetic class” with my wife. Fast forward a couple of years, all along my diet and exercise essentially never changed. I decreased soda and ate less of the typical “carbs”. There was no follow up of weight or nutrition, so within 8 years I was now on 2 oral diabetic medications and now sent to an Endocrinologist by my family MD, and right before seeing Dr. Boham, an added flex pen and an uncontrolled A1C of 8.0. At this point my wife was worried and said you are not getting any better or cured and before you know it you may be on a pump. A few months after this we were watching the PBS fundraising event and Dr. Hyman was the speaker. As soon as he said, “Diabesity”, we knew this was the missing piece/solution to my diabetic management. We watched to the end and soaked up every word. My wife called, become a member in order to receive the informational packet. Denise called Dr. Hyman’s office the next morning; the appointment was made and I was seen in April, 2012. There was so much to do and absorb. In the beginning I felt overwhelmed, but Denise encouraged me to persevere. What a difference in care than my traditional doctors, there were phlebotomists, nutritionists and nurses all dedicated to helping me succeed. Dr. Boham and Maggie my nutritionist were knowledgeable in so much and not seen with my other doctors. Maggie fine tuned my protein powder, sugar substitute and several other foods. At every in person visit and phone visit there was collaboration between Maggie and Dr. Boham and for awhile there were changes to always get to the best outcome. There were some studies performed that are not commonly done by the traditional doctors and not all were recognized by even my endocrinologist. Some recommendations were as simple as getting more sun for my vitamin D and using the sauna to get rid of toxins; there were more major changes such as a trainer a few times a week to start and 30 minutes of exercise 4 – 6 days a week and of course an entire shift in my nutrition; as in the amount of calories, portion sizes and trying and incorporating many foods, grains, seeds and supplements that were foreign to me. Now after 3 years I have gone from close to 170 lbs. to 138-140 lbs. I can now eat fruits and nuts of which I was previously “allergic” and going to the gym is part of almost every day schedule whether at home or on vacation and the best part is I no longer use the flex pen, the glimeperide has been reduced from 2mg BID to 1mg prn. My A1C is usually 6.2 - 6.3 and my blood sugar average is about 100.

My health issues started fourteen years ago when I developed ulcers and other digestive problems. After three years of discomfort I was finally diagnosed with H. pylori, a bacterial infection, and treated with a strong antibiotic. But my digestive system never fully recovered from the harsh treatment. I suffered from increasingly frequent intestinal attacks, which I attempted to control with Pepto-Bismol and other over-the-counter remedies. I tried to eat a nutritious diet and exercise, but my health deteriorated to the point where I needed to seek medical treatment. For years I went from doctor to doctor looking for a cure, but nobody was able to help me. They incorrectly diagnosed me with IBS, with hypothyroidism, and one even thought I had an eating disorder. After ten years of slow deterioration, my digestive problems had gotten to the point where they were destroying my life. I could not eat anything without bloating and pain, so I virtually stopped. And my body was not even processing the little food that I did eat. My weight dropped from a healthy 110 lbs. to an emaciated 90 lbs. I was nauseated most of the time, could not sleep through the night, was unable to relax, had intolerable menstrual cramps and could not concentrate. My mental health also suffered. I had high anxiety and simple daily activities like walking the dog, going to the grocery store, and visiting with friends became impossible. I hit bottom after my second trip to the emergency room in a one-week period. And still, no one could correctly diagnose me or provide effective treatment. I finally found hope after learning about Dr. Hyman online. His functional medicine approach resonated with me, and I knew that if anyone could explain what was going on in my body, and treat me, it would be the doctors at the Ultra Wellness Center. My first visit with Doctor Boham was inspirational. She is caring and personal, confident and thoughtful. Within minutes she had a number of theories and was expertly honing in on the answer. The battery of tests she recommended gave me confidence that I was going to get the correct diagnosis this time---not just treating my symptoms but addressing the root cause. Soon after following the diet prescribed by the nutritionist and starting a regiment of supplements, I noticed my pain and intestinal attacks were decreasing. But that was just the beginning. Through the process of diagnosis, treatment, and continued support, my condition steadily improved. While it was not an overnight fix, I now look back, 12 months later, and am astonished at how quickly I have recovered from the failing state I was in. I am back to a healthy weight, can eat anything, sleep well, and have overcome the fears and traumas that were consuming me. My husband likes to joke that I am now a different woman from the one he married, and it is true. I have not been this healthy for 14 years. The Ultra Wellness Center gave me my life back, and I am so excited to live it to the fullest!

I am a 50 year old female, a fitness and health fanatic, and have been a personal trainer for 28 years. In May 2011, I started getting headaches and feeling really miserable. I was having headaches every day, some days turning into migraines. After two months of headaches I finally said to my husband, “something is wrong with me”. I had many other nagging issues, such as, weight gain, dizziness, brain fog, fatigue, hair loss, sleeping issues, just to name a few. After passing out and spending over six hours in the emergency room, no one could tell me what was wrong with me. I went to my primary care doctor and then to a heart specialist. Over the next six months I had a head scope, two neurologist visits, three MRI’s, three visits to eye doctors, two visits to ENT specialist and began physical therapy twice a week for six months. They found a slight disc issue in my neck and thought that was what was causing my headaches. Nothing was working and I was actually getting worse. We ruled out most tick diseases and other things along the way. Doctors and physical therapists were baffled. All I know is I felt bad and had headaches every day. Next step was a Lumbar Puncture, which I chose not to do. After a year and a half of dealing with this, I stumbled upon an article in the New York Times written by Dr. Mark Hyman , that changed my approach. I read The UltraMind Solution in a weekend and knew I wanted to go to The UltraWellness Center. I was lucky enough to get Dr. Elizabeth Boham as my doctor and Maggie Ward as my nutritionist. I remember how miserable I felt the morning I met both of them. By the afternoon I knew I had found my answer and had hope. After pin pointing my food intolerances, mineral and vitamin deficiencies and then changing my diet, all of my symptoms disappeared. I can honestly say at 50 years old….I have never felt better. All my symptoms are gone, I’m sleeping better, my quality of life has improved and I am a much happier person. I don’t know where I would be if I had not gone to The UltraWellness Center. I am truly, forever grateful to the entire staff at The UltraWellness Center.

After two months of going to conventional doctors and neurologists I was given the diagnoses of Meniere’s along with valium and prednisone. I was told I would have this condition for life. That meant I would have bouts of severe life altering vertigo FOREVER!! The work up and meeting with Dr. Boham was unlike any other doctor’s appointment I had ever had. I got to talk!!! Go figure – she listened and asked a million questions. Over the last year these are the things that have healed on and in my body: No Meniere’s symptoms like vertigo, tinnitus is gone but for maybe 1% of the time (conventional medicine said I would have it for life), the hair grew back on my arms, no more constipation, one molar with a root canal where the root showed issues in the x-ray – healed, to the dentists surprise, my hot flashes went away (they were severe for years), my perfuse perspiration ended, my energy level increased 100%, healed adrenal glands, weight loss, sugar and carbohydrate cravings ended, dry eyes cleared up and lifelong lip pimples went away, and my skin is so clear and smooth now. What can I say; Dr. Boham and the UltraWellness Center saved me from a life of uncertainty and loss….

My Husband began exhibiting slight memory loss issues several years ago. Initially attributed to stress, he began seeing a heart specialist who administered annual stress tests. His tests all came back showing no issues. Unbeknownst to me, his Primary Care Physician had diagnosed him with mild depression at this time as well. As a life long athlete, he had frequently suffered minor aches or injuries and always recovered quickly. This began to change, a minor injury would become chronic, limiting his ability to play golf, basketball or run. When he would recover, it seemed he would be inflicted with another injury soon after. His Primary Care Physician advised rest for recovery. The past four years presented several major life changes for our family. Among these were the loss of both of our mothers and the closing of my husband's place of business ( where he had been employed for 35 yrs.), causing him to take an early retirement. Approximately four months after his retirement, his condition began to worsen. He would become confused as to who I was, often times thinking he was at work and I was a co-worker. Other times I would be someone he didn't know and he didn't want me in his home. His Primary Care Physician diagnosed him with retro-grade amnesia and ordered an emergency MRI. His MRI showed no concerning issues. His PCP again prescribed rest and relaxation along with a Mediterranean diet with hopes his condition was mild PTS and would resolve itself. He was eventually prescribed a mild anti-anxiety medication to use as needed. After several months with no improvement, we were finally given a referral to see a Neurologist. My husband was 59 at the time he was officially diagnosed with dementia, most probably Alzheimer's, and a rare condition, similar to reverse schizophrenia, called Capgras Syndrome. I was told to have him follow a Mediterranean diet, begin Tai-Chi, mediation and yoga, continue long walks and running, regulate his schedule, get a healthcare proxy in place and set up his smart phone with a tracking availability. Medication options for Alzheimer's were explained to us and advised we could start anytime we felt necessary. It was determined to delay the medication. Shortly after the anti-anxiety drug was no longer effective. This was replaced with a very low dose anti-phscotic to address the Capgras symptoms. Luckily, we did not stop searching for answers and we were referred to Dr. Hyman. At our first visit Dr. Hyman not only asked about my husband's memory issues, but his personality changes. It was remarkable, within 15 minutes of meeting my husband, Dr Hyman had accurately diagnosed him with Lyme disease accompanied by toxic levels of mercury and most probably mold exposure, along with a highly compromised immune system. After a battery of tests confirmed his assessments accurate, as well as uncovering other conditions compromising his health ( A nasal condition, causing the loss of sleep for months, was diagnosed as a Staph infection. His PCP had prescribed a Nettie Pot use for allergies without any testing. The proper medication cleared the problem and resolved all sleep issues.) A treatment plan was devised to systematically attack of of the issues as well as rebuild his immune system to support all of the treatments needed. Dietary changes and supplements were prescribed immediately after his first visit. These changes alone made a dramatic difference. As his system cleared and his immune system began to reboot his depression lifted and he began an effort to heal himself. His Neurologist noticed improvements as well, now considering him for case studies. Now, well on the road to recovery, my husband is feeling much better. He no longer has aches and pains, including the disappearance of chronic hip pain diagnosed as arthritis seven years ago. He is running regularly with no injuries. After many years of high blood pressure, his BP has returned to normal and he no longer requires BP medication. He has also discontinued the statin he was taking for cholesterol management. His cognizance is improving daily. Dr. Hyman literally saved my husband's life. My husband tested positive for four different tick infections along with highly elevated mercury, two mold exposures, a parasite, and a staph infection. All of these severely effecting his neurological capabilities. If we had not found Dr. Hyman and The Ultra Wellness Center, I have no doubt my husband would be in assisted living right now with no hope for recovery. Dr. Hyman and his staff, especially Kristen and Doreen, continue to provide the amazing support that has enabled us to make it through this difficult journey to wellness. My husband still has a long path ahead but, his results so far are very promising for a full recovery.
