Edit Zelkind, PA-C

Edit holds an undergraduate degree in Genetics and Cell Biology from the University of Minnesota. Prior to pursuing PA school, she engaged in research at the Pediatric Cardiology Lab at the University of Minnesota, focusing on insulin resistance in obese dog models. Graduating with honors from PA school, she initially worked in emergency medicine in Minneapolis before relocating to San Diego in 2000, where she continued her professional journey until joining The UltraWellness Center team in late 2023.

With a career spanning 2.5 decades, Edit has gained diverse experience in primary care, dermatology, and breast care, dedicating the last 16 years to medical weight management and wellness. Her realization during this time is that contemporary diseases often stem from mismatches between biology and modern-day lifestyles. Motivated by this insight, she delved into the field of functional medicine, aiming to identify and address the root causes of diseases rather than merely treating symptoms or specific diagnoses.

Currently undergoing training in functional medicine through the Institute for Functional Medicine (IFM) and School of Applied Functional Medicine (SAFM), Edit has previously studied functional medicine under Chris Kresser at the Kresser Institute and Dr. Daniel Kalish at the Kalish Institute. She has also completed a cancer mentorship with Dr. Nasha Winters ND. Edit is passionate about guiding individuals to reconnect with their food sources, nature, and fostering a sense of belonging to the earth and one another. Her primary focus revolves around the profound impact of diet on health and well-being, particularly in relation to gut health. Her overarching mission is to empower people to actively participate in their own health journey and contribute to the well-being of our planet.

“The natural healing force within each one of us is the greatest force in getting well.” Hippocrates
